Writers Retreat In Tufo 2020

Announcing WRIT 2020!

As in retreats prior, writers of the Writers Retreat in Tufo 2020 can expect to write in the mornings and workshop in the afternoons. Nights we’ll sit down to big family dinners, do a little dancing, give a garden reading, that kind of thing. On the weekends, I’ll plop everyone in the van and drive us to adventure in some of my favorite places, like the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, and Naples for the best pizza you have ever had in your life. We stay pretty busy–if you want a sense of how things went last year, click away.

Oh! And I’m extremely jazzed to inform you that our 2020 workshop leader is Emma Copley Eisenberg, of Blue Stoop and Ice Cream fame. Her first book, The Third Rainbow Girl, which dropped in January, is a NY Times Editor’s Choice Award, an Oprah pick for January 2020, and is called “brilliant, gorgeous, and deeply humane” by National Book Award Nominee Carmen Maria Machado. Check it out (buy it!) here. Besides all of that, though, I’ve known Emma for a good long time and I promise she’s an insightful and generous instructor and writer and also just person 🙂

The whole thing costs $1340. That price is ALL-INCLUSIVE. It covers your place in the house and van, all our adventures, all the wine and espresso you could want, and of course the opportunity to grow and workshop your writing alongside an eclectic and courageous cast of writers.

I do offer FINANCIAL AID. In WRITs of Summers Past I managed to fill the house with writers of all levels, careers, hometowns, perspectives, orientations, trajectories, and backgrounds. Diversity in the program is super important to me, so I’m proud to offer help to writers of marginalized communities, based on need. Speaking of which! WRIT alum F.G. DeVito Whitesell has made a GENEROUS commitment to fund scholarships for LGBTQ writers this year.

So. If you are queer, trans, or non-binary, or a writer of color, and you want to come to Tufo but can’t quite square it financially, talk about it in your application. I want you here too.

Applications are open through March 1st 2020. Email me a writing sample, some kind of resume including past publications and relevant experience, and a nice little note about your writing pursuits, your expectations from a program like this, and your appreciation of pasta, gelato, and espresso.

Send applications and inquiries right to me at pjdmcn@gmail.com, and put WRIT 2020 in the subject line. Apply! And then run and tell your friends and then have them apply too. Let’s make this thing our own.

Tanti Auguri in 2020,
Patrick
